It has been several weeks since I have been able to go fishing. Between school starting up and having a back injury I just haven't been able to make it work. However today I decided it was well past the time when I need to take some time for myself. So I loaded up the tube and headed to Athens. I don't know how the rest of y'all welcomed the sunrise but this how I did it

If there was ever a lake and a day built specifically for fishing from a tube it was today. The water was like glass and there were very few boats at the ramp. Geese were flying, fish were rising and there was no rain it sight! Fishing was a little slow but I did pick up a nice gill while trolling a piece of worm when heading to one of my favorite places.

Fish were a little scattered today and they were in deeper water due to the fall pattern coming into play. I picked up fish here and there and they were a mix of gills and shellcrackers. No redbreasts today. Most of the fish were in the 5-8 inch range with a few bigger (turned the bigger fish loose).

One thing that was kind of strange is I found one spot that was loaded with small shellcrackers about 3 inches long. I took that as a good sign because that means they will grow and I kind of like catching good shellcrackers. All in all I took about 30 or so fish. I kept a total of 7 in the 6-8 inch range and turned them into a tasty snack for myself and the fetching Mrs. Chief.

Cheers Y'all. Life is good here in Northeast TX.

We have had some but not enough. Athens is about 2 foot lower than it was the last time I fished it. The city uses the lake as a source of fresh water and it is beginning to get drawn down some. Hopefully it will begin to cool down before too much longer.
