Was able to fish a creek and River Lake the past two days. Fished Cypress Creek in Hays County on a friend's of mine property on 5-30. The creek is in excellent condition with springs still flowing into it. Caught some nice bass in the 2 to 4 pound range using the ultralight with Chartreuse/Green Rooster Tails. Switched to fly rod and caught some nice fat Bluegill in the 7" range along with some nice Redbreast in 8 to 9 inch range. I had a "BIG" bass break me off. The bass would have gone over 5 lbs. Red/Yellow Ladybug sinking fly got the best results. Fish were located in water 3 to 5 feet deep by grass beds. The water was crystal clear. On 5-31 I fished Lake Mcqueeney by Kayak. Fished from sun-up till I saw the first two ski/wake boats which was around 10am. I used ultralight tackle throwing plastic worms and small crank baits. Chartreuse/Green plastic worms along with Silver crank baits got good results. Caught several nice bass in the 2 to 4 pound range along with some nice Bluegill and Redear in the 8 to 9 inch range. Kept a few of Bluegill/Redear for the frying pan. Most fish were released. The sunnies are still spawning. Fish on Mcqueeney were caught on the main lake by docks in 8 to 12 feet of water and on the east side of the Treasure Island bridge in 4 to 8 feet of water. The water was clear. Boat traffic was picking up as I was leaving. Will be doing this all over again next week on my days off. Stay safe out there. woot

Thanks for the report, as always. Where do you launch on McQueeny?

I hate getting broke off by big fish. It happens to me alot when using 6 lb. fluoro while fishing subsurface flies for sunfish. I use 8 lb. mono for top water flies and it never seems to happen though. Go figure.

J-Moe: There is only one ramp available for public use and it belongs to a private HOA and is used as a easement for a gas company. I think the name of the subdivision where the ramp is located is called either Creek Side or Log Creek. It is off of FM 725. The ramp is on the main river and you have a very long paddle to the main lake. Best fishing is back up river from the ramp towards the Dam that separates Mcqueeney from Dunlap. I use the ramp when I fish that side of the river. When I fish the main lake I have a friend who lives on Mcqueeney and we launch from his backyard. woot
