Depends on the water body. Here in South Central Texas sunfish are fixing to spawn. On certain creeks the sunfish are spawning. Usually by Mid April sunfish have moved to shallower water especially in creeks and small rivers. I am catching creek fish in 2 to 4 feet of water now. Once hotter temperatures arrive fish will be move to brush piles, under docks or bridges, and under over hanging tree limbs. They will also move to a little deeper water in larger lakes and rivers. Hope this helps you out some! thumb

I fish the Guadalupe River a lot for sunfish. They usually move up to shallower water by Mid April. I usually find them in 7 to 12 feet of water. Like BAF already stated. Fish in creeks and small rivers will be in water 2 to 4 feet deep and during the hot summer months fish will move to a little deeper water by structure.
