The bull bluegills in their mating colors are finally on the beds at Joe Pool. While Joe Pool does not have the 10 inch and up fish that Athens or Toledo Bend has, it does have a healthy population of 6-8 inch fish which are great eating.

I caught several Bluegills yesterday which were fat and full of fight. They were caught on mealworms. First I tried a 1/64 oz jig head tipped with two mealworms. The bite was slow. I changed to a plain gold Aberdeen hook tipped with two mealworms and the bite picked up, but it was not as good as I expect from nightcrawlers.

Nice Bluegill. Good job on finding em! woot

Side Note: Do you think the changing of your hook to a gold color made a difference in the bite? If so how? I would think the gold color reflecting in the water would attract the bigger fish. Just my two cents. 2cents
