Went to Oak Point park to work on my fly fishing skills. I rigged up a popper/dropper with a Copper John as the dropper about 20" down from the popper. About every 5th or 6th cast I was getting nailed by bluegills. I even hooked into either a green sunfish or a long ear sunfish. One of the prettiest gills I have ever caught.

My goodness! This one has truly beautiful coloring, almost turquoise colored in some of its fins.

Many of the males up in our lakes in central to more north in East Texas have their spawning colors "on" and the variations are seemingly endless.

Great photo!

I don't know how it got there, but last year I saw a kid catch a big crappie outta there.

I have nabbed a few crappie (way under; not even close to the 10" mark) while using my popper/dropper and learning to cast and retrieve on my fly-rod. Heck one of the crappie hit the popper. I have seen several of the guys using night-crawlers getting hybrid bass or white bass out of there; at least I think they are hybrid bass. I thought that whites, and hybrids need a larger body or water or moving water. None of them have hit my flies. I have seen a few guys nab catfish there too. There are carp, turtles, snakes and frogs surfacing. I am surprised that I do not see any gar around in that body of water.

Having fished the creek that runs behind Oak Point park( Rowlett creek) I have never caught a gar, crappie, or white bass that far upstream.^^

I wonder if people released them there. I would expect lots of bluegills, bass, snakes, and turtles bc there are always lots of them in various holes throughout the creek.

My guess is that they are yellow bass. Rowlett creek has yellows, boy does it have them.

Beautiful long ear by the way! My kids used to call them "rainbow perch" because pretty much every color in the rainbow is on a longear at spawning time.
