Fished for trout on Monday and caught four good-sized redbreast within the first half hour on a black roostertail, but no trout. Went back today for a few hours and managed to catch this fat little guy.

I put him back in but I don't know how long he'll stay there. A couple of older gentlemen were filling their stringers with trout, giving them away, and then loading up their stringers again. One of them told me he'd caught between thirty to forty trout this morning.

I don't know how everyone else feels about this. I've got no problem with taking a few home and do it myself now and again, but I'm not too fond of one person permanently removing large numbers of any species of fish out of the water once the day's limit has been reached.

I get it- fishing is fun, and fishing for trout is loads of fun, but save some for everyone else.

Nice report! thumb The limit is five per day take home. The rest is catch&release. What is so hard about that! hmmm

Side Note: I have seen a group of three anglers who all combined their catches and took home 15 fish. Two of the anglers caught 12 of em and the third angler got 3. That is OK! coolio

I agree, but these guys were going well beyond that.

To be honest, I've always been a bit of a boy scout when it comes to the outdoors, and knowing that about myself I try to be careful not to get too high and mighty when it come to how others conduct themselves. Sometimes I win that battle, sometimes I don't.

This morning, for instance, I was in a little bit of a bad mood anyway because I'd already picked up a pocket full of someone else's trash (empty lure packages, balls of monofilament, a few beer cans) before I talked to the gentlemen that were, in my opinion, over-fishing. If I had been in a better mood I would have said something, but I was already so ticked off about the trash that I knew I had zero chance of being tactful or diplomatic, so I kept my mouth shut and moved on.

It is, and I didn't even think to look. I've got it loaded into my phone now.

Good deal.......we all have to do our part to keep an eye on our resources and report those who violate the rules that the majority of us follow.

Nice catch! I hate to be a debbie downer, but I'm finally at a point in my life where I have no problem at all telling people the harvesting rules for any fish. I would simply walk up to them and tell them you're allowed 5 fish a day. And if they didn't comply I would call the game warden.

Hate seeing people breaking the game laws. Operation game thief! Try to always get a license number of their vehicle just in case they leave before the Game Warden arrives. I can agree with what has already been said.

I don't think you can release stocked trout, ( I could be wrong). They should have caught five and left

If it's legal ain't no way in hell it's catch and release, it's CATCH & GREASE, except ROUGH (TRASH) Fish

They can be released, although condition of the fish should be taken into consideration. I mostly catch and release myself, but every now and then a fish will be mortally hooked, so I'll bring that one home if possible.
