I took a box of nightcrawlers out of the refrigerator one morning recently and by mid morning they were completely "melted", just empty, limp skin and a box of black worm poop. Obviously, if I plan to use them this summer, I will have to keep them cool. I have a small, six pack, ice cooler, which seems a little cumbersome and time consuming to open and close every time I need a fresh chunk of worm.. I have seen boxes at Academy that hold ice cubes in a bottom chamber, but don't know if there is enough ice space to keep the box cold for the five hours we normally fish. Would like to know what some of you guys that use nightcrawlers do during summer, if you will reply.

Frabil Crawler Can. It's the bee's knees. Probably the one you were talking about. Keeps ice for me great. Kept 36 crawlers for at least 6 hours on my canoe for my son and I.

If you put cornmeal in with the box of worms that will also keep them lively as well !!!

Switch to hollow body crappie jigs. Impale them on 1/32 nd oz jiheads. Use UL spinning gear. Catch as many or more, as big, mostly bigger, than with nightcrawlers. My body of work on display in this section, as well as in Bank Fishing section, pretty much cements my presentation.

We now resume our regular programming, as my soap box just split itself in half!

Thanks Banker, jagg, crappieaholic for the replies. I've got to do something to keep 'em alive. I tried meal worms last week and the sun killed all of them. I have used Super Worms and they can take the heat, but I kinda think nightcrawler pieces stay on the hook a little better and that they get more bites unless the fish are real active. Crappieaholic, I have cut nightcrawlers into three or four pieces and put them in cornmeal, but I have never tried keeping live worms in cornmeal. I will try that sometime.

Thanks for the reply Lovfldx. I have tried the hollow body jigs a few times and never did well with them, although I know some bluegill fisherman do. It may be that I haven't learned a good presentation, or maybe I just haven't used them long enough for a fair trial.
