I'm a big fan of crappie fishing and I only fish Ray Roberts by preference. That being said on occasion I catch a handful of perch, gills, pumpkin seeds etc. I am wondering if anyone on here can tell me if anyone ever consistently fishes for these tasty little sunfish or if there is even a large enough sunfish population swimming around RR that I can catch 5-10 large enough to fry up? If there is where should I be looking to catch some?

I have never fished Ray Roberts but the patterns down here in South Central Texas are fall patterns taking place. Sunfish are very active and are trying to eat all they can before colder weather sets in. We are catching nice size fish in 10 to 12 feet of water holding by drop offs, overhanging tree limbs and brush piles. Good luck. thumb

Side Note: Hopefully an angler or two who fishes that area will respond. cheers

According to the TPWD survey report there are plenty of sunfish in Lake Ray Roberts. It was stocked at one time with Coppernose Bluegill. There are no Perch or Pumpkinseed, which are found in the north, but the lake has a healthy population of Longear Sunfish which are often mistaken for Pumpkinseed. There is a large population of Green Sunfish.

Take Banker's advice and search for them using small segments of nightcrawlers on a #6 or #8 hook. If you can find a dock in 10-15 feet of water there are sure to be sunfish under it. Vary the depth until you find them.
