I have a 6th grade nephew up in Desoto who really wants to fish. My brother in law contacted for advice on Joe Pool lake which is close to them. No boat just from the bank. They went to the state park Sunday with worms and caught zero. Does anyone know where to bank fish or any advice on this lake? They are new to fishing this would just be catch and release perch stuff.

Some people are doing well on the other side of the spillway right now. Also in the State Park there is a perch pond that is supposed to be stocked. Also for just playing around perch jerking, tell them to check out any city parks near them that have ponds. Most of those have fish in them of some sort. Joe Pool is not the easiest lake to bank fish from... but the creeks feeding into it will start to come alive here in a couple of months.

He said he talked to the park rangers who told him it is hit or miss from the bank. I told him to be a hero to his boy and get a boat ! He is considering bc he said everyone with boats came in with a lot of crappie, catfish, etc... Is the other side of the spillway accessible by foot?

you park off camp wisdom and walk up past the gate at the spillway. At the state park, I've caught them off the jetty across from the marina, in the perch pond, and off the docks in and around the crappie barge. I don't even know what the status is at the marina, probably still messed up. Early summer seems to be the best time from my experience.

The latest update as of 8 Am on 8/28.
"Update news: Lynn Creek Marina Ship store finally has electricity. We are working on stocking the store and getting everything in order to possibly be able to open the ship store only in next couple weeks. Our boat ramp is now open for use as well. The Oasis is till closed and the fishing barge is also still closed. I will keep everyone update as soon as possible." From Marina Facebook page.
