Me and a friend of mine Fished Lake Dunlap today from 9:30am till 2pm and the Bluegill bite was non stop. We caught well over 50 Gills and all of em were fat and full of fight. Fish were still holding in deeper water 10 to 12 feet deep. Fish were caught on small jigs and live worms. Also got some good results using a black/yellow small plastic worm bouncing it off of the bottom and fishing it on drop offs. We had four Gills that went a little over 10". Most of the Gills were in the 8 to 9 inch range. Rounding out the catch were several nice Redbreast in the 9 to 10 inch range, two Redear in the 11 to 12 inch range, and three Bass with the largest going about four pounds. All fish were released to fight again with the exception of 25 Gills which will make it to the frying pan. After a Great mid morning of fishing we headed to Union Street Station in New Braunfels for some FANTASTIC food. Mid week fishing on Lake Dunlap. It just don't get any better! fish

Terrific! I went to my favorite sunfish spot over the weekend and it's still to cold. Only saw one caught by a guy using worms.
I really need to move south!

Sorry to hear the gills are still deep, will be trying for some fun on Friday and was hoping with the full moon they may be getting onto the beds.
Nice fish Banker you always make me a little envious.

Thanks "Kjwolvy" and "Linecaster" for the replies. This cooler weather has em still staying a little deep. I think once it warms up they will be getting very active. As already been said I think the Spawn is right around the corner. I think the water temperature also needs to be right for spawning conditions as well. 2cents "Linecaster": At least up there in the Dallas area you have some super Crappie Lakes! coolio

Thanks "Drrouter" for the reply. cheers Now you know how I feel each time I watch your videos. I am counting Bluegill in my sleep! sleep

"Dhogdog": Seems that all the fish that we have been catching on the Guadalupe have been in pretty good shape. We are also seeing a lot of Minnows. eeks

Thanks "Young Cat" and "Hook em Horns" for the replies. cheers "Young Cat": Far west Texas can be a rough place to fish. I know it gets very dry there a lot of the times and most creeks and small ponds are usually dry. Keep trying to get on some Sunnies and keep taking that young one with you. She will be your fishing pal for life and would be just as happy catching the small ones. hooked Would love to see a report from Deep West Texas. fish

"Hook em Horns": Looks like a good year is shaping up for some very nice Gills. thumb

Congratulations Chuck,
I too was at Dunlap yesterday, looking for sunnies (in all the wrong places). I don't know why I didn't try deeper than 7 ft (float to hook).
I did score some nice LM bass (catch-photo-release).

Yeah, I meant 'gills. Keep forgetting bass are sunnies too.

Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.
