bought a truck Monday afternoon (dealer).. didn't notice that neither of these came on when turned tha key to run and started it for tha trip home.. noticed it tha next morning (today) in tha dark when I left tha house.... bought it "as is" but feel like that this would be an issue to be addressed by tha dealer.. few other things found but I don't mind takin' care of on my dime 'cause of tha "as is" deal.. was told it would "inspect" at tha day we bought it but i'm told now it will not without those lights workin' properly.... it did pass inspection 2 months ago so it does not need to be done again till next july.....will add this.. found tha abs problem but light will not work even when its on tha scanner... same with tha check engine light.. never seen two or more "bad" bulbs at tha same time.. you can also tell that someone has been "behind tha instruments"

Whatcha think???

Well if someone has been "behind the instruments" I would suspect loose bulbs or connections if they are not bad all together. The last vehicle I've had to go "behind the instruments" was a 1978 Ford Thunderbird and at that time I replaced everyone of the bulbs because I didn't want to have to go back in there. You know how it goes sometimes onesy twosy.

As IS is just that as is, but if they misrepresented something to you then I would go back and at least have a talk to them. I believe some of the abs issues can be costly to fix.

Whats the year and make?

I understand "as is" but jackin' with OBD is a no-no period... granted I shoulda caught it tha first time I turned tha key (as should he) an self check lights (abs, check engine, traction control) didn't show.. what really brought this up is after not seein' tha lights, got ta pokin' around a little closer and found tha big ABS fuse pulled and layin' on top of tha fuse block under tha cover... of course he says he didn't know it was pulled... your right, 'bout a grand ta fix when all said n done! that part i'll jus hafta eat...but still no self check lights and don't know yet what its gonna take to fix those till I get hold of a later model scanner...

Just making sure you know, I wasn't meaning to be a smart arse, I know some folks who would sell you a vehicle as is with no oil in it etc. Hope you get it all figured out.

yeah, I do know that....update though.. stuck with tha OBD/light problem unless I can determine it was in his possession when they were "fixed".. not a scanner available that will tell "when" it was done so i'm being told.. lesson learned, pay attention to tha lights every time a key is turned.......

When I bought my 98 Ranger off of Craigslist I had the same problem (no check engine light illuminated with key on engine off) Luckily for me I scanned it and it came back clean with no codes and turned out it just had a few burned out bulbs. But that should be one of the first things you check as its usually a good indicator if the person you are buying from is trying to hide something or not. I just got caught up in the whole deal and completely forgot to check it. Luckily it didnt bite me in the [censored] like yours did though. Lesson learned!

pretty much my own fault.. got lulled inta "not payin' attention" by all tha very nice units they had.. absolutely no junk in site! but all is good now except tha abs!.. a coupla light bulbs and they all light up... found out one thing I couldn't believe though.. tha abs doesn't hafta work for inspection as long as tha brakes still work!

bad thing is tha abs valve body and module are toast but i'll justa hafta eat that part but tha truck as a whole is very, very solid and clean so i'm not so pissed (at myself) now!!!

Must be an early 2000's GM. Seen quite a few of those with bad ABS modules.
