Son truck (2008 Dodge Ram v6) is at Rockwall Dodge and it looks like both heads are warped due to overheating and need replaced. 3rd party warranty company is dragging their feet, and afraid they are gonna stiff me on this and tell me it is not covered due to some crazy reasoning.

Anyway.... if they deny coverage, I may have it towed to my local mechanic to replace them, but wondering can gently used or reman heads to be obtained cheaper.. and if so, is there a decent local source.

If it got hot enough to warp the heads, I'm betting more than the heads were damaged. Find a low mileage engine from a reputable recycler.

I'm not surprised they are balking at coverage. Warped heads is a good indicator that the vehicle was operated after warnings were given to stop and check engine. Warranty's are to cover mechanical error and not human.

I would take to your local mechanic if the warranty falls through. More than likely the heads can be resurfaced and reused. s

They called again late yesterday and said thermostat appeared to be stuck at some point which caused engine to overheat. They said by the time u usually notice light and pull over heads are ruined.

So does that mean they're going to cover it for you? Don't let the warranty company stick it to you. Call in and talk to supervisors or managers or whoever until it gets covered (assuming you didn't do something that the warranty prohibits).

The tech indicated that the warranty companies try and deny claims saying it was because u didn't perform the coolant flush at required interval.

I have paperwork that shows I had it flushed 7k miles ago.. so gonna pull this out on them next week when we talk again.

Fight it all you can, and next time don't ever buy a warranty that is not from the manufacturer. When my family had New Car Dealerships, we saw it all the time when the aftermarket warranty is denied because of very small minor problems. One example, we had a local rancher get a fuel pump denied because he had a trailer brake controller installed. Good luck!

Latest update is the water pump failed, and because my son did not recognize it immediately and pull over they won't cover it. I said he drove home from school approximately one mile before he realized what was going on.

Looks like I am going to have a project truck in the driveway.

So water pumps and engines aren't under warranty? I don't think I would accept their answer. Who sold you the warranty?

Aftermarket warranty companies suck! If you buy a vehicle from a dealership, always buy an extended warranty from the manufacturer! I've dealt with a lot of aftermarket companies and 80% of them will ship used parts for the repair!

Millennium warranty. I understand their position but told them we had done everything in our power to stop any further damage after check engine light and such.

There is no owner responsibility to diagnose issues without any sort of visible warning from the vehicle. If the vehicle was properly maintained and brought in to the dealer as soon as it was reasonably convenient, then I would make it clear to the warranty company that you expect it to be covered or you will seek help from the dealership that sold you the warranty or you will pursue legal recourse.

It is a screwed up situation.

The Check Engine light and Check Gages indicator came on when my went to drive home from school. He said he did not know what was going on, so he drove the one mile home from school. I went out to the driveway and we checked everything. Oil, Coolant, Gages, etc.. fluids looked good, coolant in reservoir, no extraordinary heat come from the vehicle. I looked at his exhaust and noticed a small puffs of steam coming out, so I figure it was a blown headgasket. I told him to drive down to Autozone another mile away and had them read the code and it said.... P0304 _ heads overheated and needed replaced. Still no indication from gage that water pump was out or anything that would indicate engine was HOT. We drove to Rockwall Dodge from Sachse and went into Service area and truck seemed to operating ok other than puffs of steam coming out of tailpipe.

Warranty company's stance is that son should have immediately pulled over with Check Engine Light/Check Gages came on and called tow truck when he started to drive home from school (1 mile). I said, while that sounds good in theory. I said driving one mile home from school when he did not know what was going on seemed to be somewhat reasonable, given most instances on freeway you can't get over due to traffic, or somewhere safe for that to occur.

It is being towed now to my local mechanic who I used all on non-warranty repairs on our vehicles. He said he will see what he can do.. either recycled engine, reman heads, or something to get him back going.

P0304 is missfire on #4 cylinder... You did'nt cause the problem.. It just happened! Assuming its a 3.7, they are pretty easy to work on! Sorry for your misfortune!

I still think you should fight the warranty company. Just because they make up a reason to deny the claim doesn't mean it's right. Is there a requirement in your paperwork to do as they're suggesting? If not, then they don't have a leg to stand on. Nobody pulls over and calls a tow truck just because a check engine light comes on. That's a completely unreasonable expectation.
