There seem to be tons of access points to the Trinity river all over the DFW area if you're willing to walk. Are there any particular areas that hold more alligator gar or are they relatively common throughout the Trinity in north Texas?

Look on a map at your lakes. Trace from spillway to trinity river. Find access, deep water, and no obstruction between spillway and river.
