Most are caught ice fishing with dead or live minnows after dark. Quite a bit of them in Quebec, but the giants are in the prairie provinces.
I've never targeted them, but caught a small one in a deep walleye lake about 250 miles North of Montreal. Was drifting a worms along with a bottom bouncer at 50 feet or so across a bay during a heat wave when it hit. Guess it was trying to stay cool.
