Tilapia! I hope you ate it!

Tilapia! I hope you ate it! Interesting! Caught two of these at my local neighborhood pond while fishing for blues. Next time, I'll keep them and eat them

definitely a tilapia. good to eat. invasive species. If he showed up in a neighborhood pond then someone turned him loose somewhere he is not supposed to be.

Many park type ponds are deliberately stocked with tilapia during the summer. They will likely die out in the winter when the water temp drops below 60 degrees.

I use to eat Tilapia a while back until there was a news break about a place in texas that raised them but the water was refined sewer water . Not touch them since then . Not had anything but saltwater fish for 3 years now .

I didn't know they stocked them other places. that's interesting to know. You're right though about them dying in the cold weather. They cannot handle the cold.

nothing against saltwater fish, and I too would not care to eat tilapia raised in sewer water. but the ocean is only probably the single most polluted body of water on earth.

Yes, I'm pretty sure our neighborhood stocks them each year for the bass to eat. They've asked that we not take them until winter before the die off, but surely no bass would eat a tilapia THAT big... but i could be wrong.

They also keep the pond from becoming overrun by vegetation since they are herbivores/omnivores... they generally eat plant matter but when they have exhausted that they will eat whatever else they can find according to what I've read. Cheaper than triploid grass carp to stock and won't take over because of winter die-off.
