Yes. It is Nerodia rhombifer. Just the fact that it is submerged tells you it isn't a cottonmouth. The pattern is also a dead giveaway.

Haha I can usually tell but Im assuming he felt threatened and flattened out its body and head amd eventually retreated. Every poisonous snake I came across just didnt run. They draw a line in the dirt and stare at you

The course lets you fish one side while golfers are out. That one side has tall grass so now I tread lightly and nervous. Fishing is good though

100 percent diamond back water snake, not poisonous but most of em have a bad attitude.

Toady I waded the creek its crazy how fast the water warmed up. I was climbing a rock dam standing in like 6 inches of water. I look down just in time to that I had cornered a snake. It was under water so I just backed off to be safe. Pretty sure he was a cool guy but I was in water on its turf so I found my own area to climb the dam. BTW all i caught was a bullfrog that got away when I fell in about 8 foot of water off a steep muddy bank bad day but fun.
