The crappie fishing is still very good on Belton. They are also still spawning, sure seems like they have been for a long time. A lot of the females still have eggs. Caught this bunch on Sunday. If you could get a minnow or jig past the perch the crappie were hungry. Caught some eating size perch also. My wife got the 9lb. Goo with her bow. Good Times!

Nicely done that haul makes me jealous! Ive tried so many ideas for slabs the last couple weeks and keep coming up empty. I hit the house boats yesterday afternoon and started with some promise but quickly vanished, tried some structure and left with little. Great job I know it was fun!
Sincerely,
Frustrated Belton Fisherman

strong work!!!
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Sincerely,
Frustrated Belton Fisherman I have heard of a few disgruntled lake Belton fisherman, on this forum...it would seem that Aqua has figured out the magic of the lake...

Belton is no easy lake for sure. Been fishing it all my life. I have been getting a little lucky the last couple years. The zebra mussels don't help. Water getting clearer every day. Light line, floro leaders, small hooks and small jigs. Search for hours to find the fish today, catch some, go back tomorrow and ZERO, spend couple hours more finding them again. May be a simple depth change, may be somewhere totally different. I am a little obsessed with Crappie right now. Told myself a few years ago that I wanted to learn all I could to be a better Crappie fisher. What I have learned it that it is a lot of work, obsessive, and a lot of fun when you have some success. Keeping a journal, constantly changing....bait, depth, size, presentation, all helps a lot, read everything you have time to read, ask for advise then actually follow it. I have gotten advise from lots of good people on this forum. I have tried it all. Most has worked. The most labor intensive part is "Build it and they will come"!!!!

Good advice thank you! Ive read a bunch, so much my wife doesnt even ask anymore she states hes reading about fish again. It seems everyone catches them differently in different spots at different depths in different jigs at different times. I havent tried em all but am working on it. The wife is dying for fish tacos and Id sure like to catch em!

When I catch a bunch of crappie, I normally separate the crappie into over 12 and under 12...the under 12s are the ones I use for crappie tacos...dont know why, but they seem to make the best crappie tacos...despite whether it is real, or a figment of my imagination...I firmly believe they bake faster, and are juicier than the larger filets.
