I took a buddy out yesterday in search of a fun time and crappie dinner. We decided to head out to Lake Benbrook as we had just been there last weekend and located some fish. We fished in a club bass tournament last weekend and after the tournament was over one of our club members told us that they saw a couple of people pulling them in off of a tree and suggested that we hit that spot.

We headed over there after the weigh in and started pulling them in. We caught @ 20 in a couple of hours (2-5:30)while tied up and feet hanging off my boat. It was a great time and almost all were keepers.

So, I called my buddy and asked if he wanted to go back and wack them again. He was all for it and we were there by 7 and headed back to the same spot. We get there and started off well, except that there were some short fish mixed in. After about an hour and a half we had 5 pretty solid keepers in the cooler and decided to try other spots. We left for an hour and a half and didn't get a bite at 4 other great looking spots. Trees off of the end of a point, trees with brush in the middle of a point, and other spots off of the scattered stick-ups. We went to the dock that isn't really a dock and didn't get a sniff.

We decided to head back to those two trees and there was a boat on the Western tree, but they were there when we were in the morning. We chatted with a man and his wife and told them that we blanked elsewhere and they told us that they had just returned and had the same story. I don't know why we couldn't find a bite elsewhere, but it just struck us as odd.

I ended up filleting 11 fish and had crappie tacos (like Jacobs except I fried my fish) and they were delicious, but I am still confused why we couldn't find a bite elsewhere. I guess sometimes it is best to stick with what's working.

I also broke my skeg in half on a stump over the course of the quest to find fish. Hope that everyone had a good weekend.

For some reason Benbrook has always been hit or miss for me also. One day is great and the next trip is nothing but hard work.

In my experience, the fish will just shut off once the sun gets down to a certain point. That is when the fish leave the cover and scatter looking to chase bait. I don't think it was anything you did but was more of a time of day thing.

I agree with this and it was also a North wind crazy this weekend.
