Summer time FAT!

The shad spawn must have been as good as it gets this year on area lakes. Fish have been rolling in FAT all summer long and stuffed with 3 or 6 shad in their guts and still feeding all summer long. Record weights this winter and spring, I am betting.

How often have you seen this in August?

Yep all them flooded willows and brush from when the lakes were low. It gives the shad and fry cover. Not only are the shad out in huge numbers but so are the baby bass, crappie, sand bass, etc. I think we will experience some great fishing for years to come if the rains continue and keep the lakes full.

I have rarely seen crappie with that much fat except in winter and early spring. Summer fish are usually on the thin side and no fat. This has been an exceptional year for sure. Water temps at 81-82 in late Aug is a first for me. Lots of nutrients in the water this year and should be good fishing ahead. clap
Hey slew, I think the diet phase ended. sarcastic

I agree, and with maybe a new state record this year. I would like to see them all over 4 pounds. Think the fish will there but those big one are smart and almost a person has to be fishing for the big ones to catch one that size.

In my opinion, CAT could not have picked a better time to hold the TSCC on Lake Lewisville. Since spring, the fishing has held up as good as I've ever seen it. Lots of big fish being caught with tons of fat inside. And the sad population is the biggest I've ever seen there. Yes sir, this winter will be a dandy.

I'm not an old timer. I just feel old most of the time.

They are healthy but there are a lot of dinks that you have to get through some days.

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?
