Fishing yesterday at PK, unable to find any Shad big enough to catch with my throw net so I just started crappie fishing. Using some of Jiggin Jerry Taylors jigs I started vertical jigging some standing timber and boom I hook up with one big LM Bass after another.

Now I enjoy catching an occasional LM Bass but watching my fragile crappie pole bend double under the boat with a 5-6 LB Bass was certainly interesting. Threw some of the smaller ones in the ice. Makes you wonder why those bass guys just don't fish for crappie. Sure seems like a LM Bass won't pass up a crappie jig. Either that, or maybe I'm doing something wrong. Be interesting to see if anyone else has this issue.

Happens at least once every trip to Ivie. And yea, they are good on the grill....

Didn't get any crappie but I'm about to fillet the ones I got. I'd post pics but it will generate hate mail from the bass guys.

Never understood the lack of eating largemouth... I think they taste better than sand bass. Always have thrown back bass 5lb and up to keep spawning like I do with the large ones of other species.

Nothing wrong with LM bass fillets! Fry up in cornmeal, slice an onion and maybe a little salt, pepper and lemon juice..

The crappie would have to darn near be extinct before.......I'd consider one of those muddy tasting.......actually I'd be after those blues 1st, they are better on my plate....but thats when the crappie are extinct & I don't see that happening....LOL

I'm the rare bird who likes eating bass even more than crappie.

I've ate plenty of em!! Had some great days on Fork crappie fishing wearing out the ditch pickles too. Got 3 fish 6-7 pounds the same trip in Feb last year all on 4.5' rods and 6lb test. Looked like one of them BASS pros walking them around the boat 2-3 times before getting them to where I could lip em! Didn't wanna lose my jigs! They're $1 a piece!!! At times they're a nuissance!
