Decided to start chasing the slabs this year, only been to Fork a few times, going this weekend. This time of the year what would be a good area to fish? Got my jigs and going to stop for some minnows. Putting in near the Dam. Was told by a bass guy the Dam and E and W Caney would be the place to start...what do the experts say? Thanks in advance.

I personally would be looking shallow with all of the warmer weather.

The big males have started, but I haven't found them relating to wood like they did last year. They are in 3.5 fow in the hydrilla.
The Hydrilla is making a STRONG comeback this year, a lot of the coves will be matted up this summer
If you catch 1, stop and slow way down, there is usually more nearby if not right in the same area.
I'm sure someone may have found some of the big gals, but the ones I found were on structure in 8-12 fow.

Dad and I fished Fork Today.

Here is our report:

Fished Birch Creek Bridge. Got 6 keepers 11-12 inch fish. It was the only 6 keepers we caught all day. Blue and Chartreuse.

We went way up North of the 2966 Bridge all the way up by the power lines then take a right all the way back in that cove. The area looked great and we fished it for over an hour the entire Southern shore and nothing. Water Temp 62 and hydrilla and grass pockets and just awesome looking real estate, but nothing.

Loaded up went to the East side of the lake launched by the 515 East Bridge. Caught some dinks off the 515 East Bridge decided to go up North. The bridge at Running Creek looked like a Boat Show so we did not even bother going into that cove. It looks like that this time of year and Fork is too big to go deal with that situation. I wanted no part of it today.

Fished around the sunken bridge and the shore around the sunken bridge. Water Temp 63 got to watch my cork go down once it was an 8 inch bass.

Went up into Coffee Creek thought we would do something in there. Water Temp was 67 degrees!! Man there was nothing and I mean nothing going on up there. 4 boats no one catching anything other than drum in there. Its like the water is ready but the fish are not.

Went back to 515 East and nothing.

Went South of the 515 and about half way to the 154 there is a cove to the left. Went back in that cove water temp 63 degrees. Prime Real Estate, hydrilla, grass pockets, all the good looking stuff that is all over fork and not a dang bite!!

Loaded up decided to hit Tawokini on the way home. Fished Oak Cove...again awesome looking Real Estate, water temp 65 and nothing.
Ran to the Dam and water temp there 58 degress not a single bite.

Beautiful Day on the water, lots of fellow fisherman enjoying the day on the water, but for us we ended the day with 6 keeper fish that were caught on the Birch Creek Bridge Between 7am and 8am 18 feet down on plain jigs Blue and Chartruese.

We had minnows and fished them as well later in the day, but for us we covered a lot of territory in search of the mighty Crappie, but it was not our day today.

Every Day is different and they are lurking around somewhere. I'm sure they were close by at some of the places we fished today. We will hopefully get into them next time.

I can't complain...I got to enjoy a great day on the water hanging out with my Dad and enjoying looking at a lake that at least has water in it unlike last year.
