Braved the wind today to try a cork and jig in some shallow coves. 62 degrees in the back of the cove. Moon high in the sky. Not a nibble!

how shallow were you fishing?

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

I think its a bit early for them to be spawning in the coves on the main lake. I would check in creeks. If they are spawning in the coves I would bet they would be in really small areasand right before sunset.

The bass are spawning on some of the lakes and its just as good. Both the bream and crappie will be feeding on the small ones. I like to use a 1 inch tube jig or a very small hand tied ones. But most any small jig will work.

try to find some deeper cover or structure going into that cove, they dont always go right to the banks. if there is a little drop off, even if its a foot, or some cover like logs, trees, brush, try there first. also take note of the water color. if its clear near the bank, forget it.
crappie can spawn deep sometimes, 14 feet is not uncommon. try some slip cork rigs and hover or anchor in front of the cove, and cast into the cove . if the water is 14 feet, set your slip corks to 10 , or 11 feet. cast 3 or 4 rigs out at different depths. Try to set up so the wind is blowing the corks away from you. If no good, go a little shallower. Fish in 10 fow with cork and jig 6 to 8 ft.
pay attention to your sonar. you can usually tell if theres life in an area pretty quick.

Sounds like some good advice in this thread. I caught 11 keepers last night in 18"s of water. Males have not changed to black yet. I think they are just cruising though & checking everything out.

Full moon will definitely pull them in if the weather holds out.

I see Wednesday night is supposed to be 36 degrees.

Last hour of the day and one hour after sunset was the most productive for me, Slab Bandit Firehouse shad.
