I have an old abu garcia spinning reel (cardinal series) that I have owned for 20 years or so. I have plenty of other setups for crappie but this reel holds a special place in my heart. I can't even estimate how many crappie this puppy has reeled in over the years. It is well taken care of and in very good condition.

My issue: The drag is not working properly, I tighten the drag all the way up and can still pull line from the spool without much force. Is there a simple fix? A part that I need to replace? Or is this one ready for the great rod holder in the sky? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

He once caught his limit in the sahara desert, he once fried crappie using a lighter and a dixie cup. He is the most interesting crappie fisherman in the world. Stay thirsty my friends....

Go to this page and scroll down to the Cardinal listings. Your reel schematic should be there. Look and see if a drag washer is listed. I'll bet it is.
