I got out on the lake for a few hours this afternoon. I was at my first fishing spot around 1:15 and headed for home at 5:10, so I spent a little less than four hours fishing. It was cloudy, but warm. The south wind was light when I first got on the water, but really picked up and blew hard most of the time I was there. It was getting so dark at the end that I stopped to check weather radar, and realized I needed to get off the water quick. I had just gotten my boat backed into the garage when the rain started. It was a good bite, and I ended up with 30 keepers. All were black crappie. There were no real monsters, but most were solid fish. I caught the fish 8 to 10 feet deep, in 8 to 20 feet of water, on brush, wood, and concrete. I caught everything on 1/16 and 3/32 oz jigs, rigged with my homemade plastic shad. Dark gray shad was the best color, but they hit electric chicken and blue/chartreuse well, too. I caught some fish just dropping the jig straight down, but in the shallow spots, pitching the jig out, then crawling it slowly on the bottom near the cover seemed to draw the most bites. Most fish really hit hard. All fish were released. I thought I had already seen every screw up possible on a boat ramp, but I was mistaken. As I waited to load my boat at a POA ramp, I watched a guy backing his trailer down the ramp with his driver side door wide open while he was looking back to see the trailer. Like most POA ramps, this one had a gate at the top of the ramp, and this guy's open door crunched the gate post before he managed to stop, pull forward, then close the door. He couldn't get the obviously damaged door to close properly and latch, and after I had loaded my boat, I found that the gate post had been moved enough that I couldn't lock the gate, either. If there's a way to screw up on a boat ramp, people will find it.

Oh, and after the storm, for the first time ever, I saw a complete double rainbow. I couldn't zoom out enough to get it all in a photo, and trees were blocking some of it, but here are the photos I took. Glad I checked the weather radar when I did.
