Shallow water fishing- rock or mud?

During the spawn are you looking for rocky shorelines or muddy ones? Does it matter?

Rocky gravel type bottoms are the best spawning areas but if not that look for firm bottoms.

Yeah, you want firmer sandy/rocky bottoms over mud. When in doubt, just stick your rid tip down and feel the bottom...if your rod tip sinks into the bottom, move on somewhere else. Crappie are not known to spawn in mud because the beds wash out.
