After reading the post about catching larger crappie on big shad I had to go up in the creek this evening and throw the net. Largest shad I caught was about 3.5”. The results were fast and I would have to say larger that usual. We had a blast for about and hour and a half and ran out of shad. Switched to jigs and caught maybe 6 smalls and some big perch. I agree crappie Love shad, it seems the bigger the better!! Thanks for the advise TFF.

Well can’t get pictures to load from my phone, I’ll post them tomorrow from my computer. We caught 30 something anyway.

When the crappie get tight lipped, go to the boat ramp or creek and seine some minnows/shad and use them...everyone will be fishing and you will be catching!

Just toss the ghost minnows back though...unless you want to catch catfish...

Shad are great! I also find red shiners to be one of the best baits you can get, and they’re easier to keep alive. If you use what is resident to the water body, you’re always going to outfish something that’s been in a bait tank for who knows how long.

That last one was sure chunky....just when you thought there were few remaining crappie, just add shad and voila!
