Ray Roberts is my home lake. Went to a grassy area I have caught them in before during the spawn and it was full of carp. Does this mean the crappie have already come and gone?

No, not even close. Weather has them all messed up so it will be hit and miss for the next few weeks.

About 3pm, I dropped by a favorite bank fishing spot today (I was nearby)...talked to a guy soaking minnows on a bridge who said he was catching fish, so I decide to go check out a couple favorite holes...on down the creek...walked out a few hours later with a limit...after catching close to a double limit...kept the largest ones. MOST of the fish were 4 to 6 foot deep, early in the day, then moved up on the bank the later it got...

Carp are always in the creek, seeing them means nothing....

We caught crappie along the banks this past weekend...with the carp right in there with them. The carp and crappie seem to get along just fine wink

They are still moving shallow around here and undeveloped eggs and sperm sacks are the norm...

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Not done yet. It's really just getting started up here. The cooler weather and flooding rain we had has made them a couple of weeks late. Should be any day but these fronts aren't helping.

They havent really started. Everyone has just been antsy to catch spawners since February, but our spawn usually doesnt really start until around now anyway.

I fished Sat. 31st. on North end of RR. water was 56 degrees, and nothing was shallow. Got more bites as I worked out deeper around 10-15 fow. After this next front comes through i'm thinking of taking off work next Wed. Hopefully that should be a big day on Roberts.

Yes, its the drum you have to watch out for...when you start catching drum frequently, that is a sign the crappie have laid eggs and the spawn is about over...the vacuum cleaners are there to mop up any unguarded nests...

Just finished cleaning a two day limit...several females had eggs that were a week ten days away, one female had mostly spawned out (caught her last night), and the rest were only a few days away, in various stages of spawn runny...all tails were shredded on the fish...and I am south of the metromess...
