 Will crappie hit small shad?

I've only used live (bait store bought) minnows to fish for crappie. Will they hit the small shad that can be caught with a throw net? Is there a specific method of fishing with shad, vs minnows? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

I have caught them on shad drifting for catfish.

Crappie will eat shad all the way up to 4-5" long.

yep, definitely catch crappie with shad along with a variety of other species. Biggest problem you will have is keeping them alive.

Any guidance would be much appreciated. The size you catch most often in a cast net is the size they will hit most readily and a jig that size will work too. But they eat small, medium and large.

Crappie will also hit fresh dead shad and a fillet off the shad. Hook the live shad thru the top lip out the nostril hole. They will live longer. Maybe the best bait you will ever use.

They will devour them like fresh caviar. The ultimate live bait for crappie. The disadvantage to them is the time to find the right size and the care necessary to keep them alive.

I can catch the shad, but I can't catch crappie with the shad. Really odd If the crappie are there and in the mood to bite, live shad will usually outfish minnows or jigs
