I was going to take my cast net out to the lake today to try to get some catfish bait. Do y'all ever get anything that will help with crappie when you cast?

i've caught extremely small shad that I put on a hook before and caught a few small crappie on. Every now and then i'll get some minnows but not often

tip a jig with shad. That will do it. Also, sometimes when crappie will not take a jig or a live minnow they will take a dead shad if it's fresh.
