Hi Guys,

I'm having a hard time catching minnows for bait around Lake Waco. Any tips of where to try is greatly appreciated. So far, I've been to the old hwy 6 bridge, Speegleville boat ramp, North Bosque river and Hogg creek. I'm coming up with no minnow. Now, I caught a few shad but no minnows.

I really want to take the kids ut fishing and money for bait is tight right now.

Any tips appreciated.

Best way to do it is to buy a minnow trap, the casting net has holes too big for minnows to be caught. Shouldn't cost too much, only thing is u gotta leave it for a few hours to let them get in it. Google it up or watch a YouTube video about it.

Yeah as said above a minnow trap is your best bet. Any cast net with mesh small enough to catch minnows will sink way to slow to ever catch anything.

Get you a flashlight and a smaller holed dip net. Go out at night and stock up.

Watch out for snakes.

Seine would work too.

I'll definitely look into going at night. I'm guessing my 3/8" mono cast net is too big for these critters?

On a lighter note, my sons caught 5 crappie today, 1 was 14", 2 were 13" and 2 were 9". We returned the 9" ones with a promise for them to grow bigger and get fried up for next year.

Minnow trap...put it out and check it later.

Get a seine net and get them at boat ramp. You'll get variety of minnows from ghost minnows to shiner. Used to seine them early morning or toward the evening. You can try during the day.
