I was lucky to find time to fish Fork Saturday off Popes Marina (slow bite)- 100% keepers for February .. BIG tournament/boat show going on with hundreds of high performance boats! all demonstrating 60 -70+ SOME NEAR MISSES!
the lady there in Alba store were we bought minnows said TPW were ticketing folks up to 100.00 for not having proof of were minnows were purchased.keep your receipt!!
I know of the zebra mussel issues - but here in central Texas I seine my own due to ridiculous prices. Anybody know if they are really enforcing and what to do if you catch your own from same body of water ? video i guess ?

A half truth is usually less than half of that !

Its a bunch of bs when it comes to minnows! For example Minnow guys get minnows from several lakes and sell to fifty baits stores in different areas so if they are so concern about ZM then stop the birds from flying, stop the flooding's, river bank risings, and all the animals from taking them from one body to another! Mama nature has a way of dealing with invasive creatures like this its called the catfish and gasper goo! If that doesn't work trust me you checking your boat wont put a dent in it! Trust in what I say I got it from the Horses Mouth!

I think TPWD failed to think this through as fisherman when it was conceived, nonetheless, it is the law. Get the receipt and cover your back side. Most bait shops run their sales through a cash register anyway, so a receipt should be no problem.

Very true...but there's something about watching that cork bounce up and down, and then go under. Or..watching that cork turn up on its side. I mostly jig fish now, but grew up fishing minnows with a cork with my dad. I like to relive those old times. There will come a day that I won't be able too.

that is what I have heard also, I would think though that you would have to release and unused minnows and empty the water from your minnow container. Use the seine as your receipt!

You can legally use personally caught bait, but you can't transport it in the water from the water body it was caught in. I don't see how anybody can ticket you for bait you have in a bait well, especially if lake water is in the tank, because I don't see how they can prove that you didn't catch the bait in the lake.

Ok, here is the scene...

1) Rich well connected Water Companies to not-so-highly paid Govmint Officials - we need more control over our water resources. Too many peasants are using the lakes/streams and questioning our judgement. We need to limit the criticism as much as possible.
2) Govmint official - Hmmm, well we could roll out the Zebra Mussel Research and enact more laws to protect your water rights...and we can get each State oversee it...of course it WILL require a significant donation to my RE-election campain fund.
3) Money is not our problem; control is our problem....Get it done and name your price.
4) Govmint Official to State Official...It is a Multi-Billion problem in your state... Your state needs to be in the forefront of this problem...Think of all the extra money that will made available through enforcement revenures, money for extra staffing, federal support, and reelection support....Hmmm, sounds like we have a SERIOUS problem that needs to be addressed...We Need to Change the Laws, to protect our waters.
5) Govmint Training Experts to State GWs...There will be a 180 day phase in period...Advise the public at gatherings, provide policy guidance to business selling live bait, inform the public at the launches; then during the next boating season extend the long arm of the law by writing tickets, even if you are wrong, it will be ok because the ALJ (administrative Law Judge) will further define/expand the laws as written to become more onerus, so we can effectively limit citizens from using the lakes through confusing enforcement actions....
6) Poor Peasants to other Poor Peasants (aka tax paying citizens)....These laws are CR@P, and I got a ticket because I didn't towel dry my boat before I left the launch...

And that ladies, gentlemen, and TFFers is how laws become enacted...
