Saw something yesterday that was new to me. While returning to the marina we saw gulls diving into the water over and over. Nothing unusual right? Except in this case they weren't feeding. Close inspection showed that they were bathing. They would dive in and then sit on the water and dip their heads and shake the water off just like birds do in a bird bath. Then they would fly up and do it again and again. Not once did one of them eat anything. (And it wasn't even Saturday)
Fished with Gary Sims (darn good fisherman). We fished about 10-12 places catching 10-15 fish at each stop. Bigger fish came near bottom in 24' water.
Fun day.

That's a cool observation regarding those birds. I guess it makes sense gulls would like a bird bath too? I remember years ago seeing a ton of bird activity in a slough on Lewisville in February. I thought there must be shad to catch but nothing came up in the castnet. I then noticed thousands of tiny "bugs" of some sort had hatched out and the birds were eating those.
