Ok guys I've been lurking around here for a while and really enjoy the tips and stories. I'm in the market for a boat and am leaning towards a Lund since I have two very small children. I would be most interested in the pro-v or an impact. Does anyone here have experience in either of these or their predecessors? I took a trip with Lane in their Lund and that was what got me thinking about the Lund being great for family. I had a ZX225 a few years ago and I loved it however the low sides are the only thing keeping me from buying another bass boat. I will be doing mainly crappie and cat fishing as I have grown bored with bass.

How do these boats fair in wind? Will they be blown around much more than a bass boat? I know the high sides would make it seem this would be the case but the boats I am interested are also comparable in weight to the bass counterparts.

I know most boats need to be maxed out on horse power but the lunes seem to do fine speed wise with even mid range motors. Anyone had any regrets not maxing out the motors on these boats? I'm not concerned with resale because I will be keeping this boat for a very long time.

Double bubble or full windshield?

Any opinions will be much appreciated.

Lund's are great boats. We had been out a couple times in Big Crappies Lund and had good trips both times. When it came time for us to trade boats, I started doing my homework. I found that the walleye guys run this style boat alot on the great lakes up there. I was able to get alot of good information off www.walleyecentral.com It is their version of our fishing forum. We decided to go with a G3 Angler V172F. This was mainly because of layout differences. Both are quality boats, but I was wanting a larger rod box and dual live wells.

We also went with the full windshield and have not regretted that decision. It kind of cuts down on movement around the boat, but is worth it on runs across the lake in choppy water or cool weather.

As far as wind, it blows more that a bass boat. It doesn't however blow nearly as much as the Tracker 165 mod V we had before this boat. My ipilot holds it good. Even better in wind around 10-15 mph that on dead calm.

My 90hp Yamaha has plenty of power. I can run 30 mph on the GPS with me and my wife, full 30 gallons of gas, and both livewells full of water, plus all of our gear. It is rated for a 115, but the 90 pushes it just fine. Not to mention that it can go forever on that tank of gas. If you was wanting to pull a skier or something, you might want to max out the motor.

The 4 main manufactures that I saw on walleye central were: Lund, G3, Crestliner, and Alumacraft. There are others, but these were the ones it seemed that had the most consistent good reviews. Lund boats had the most reviews, mostly good. They are excellent boat, just not with the layout we wanted.

I hope this helps you.

I have a 2005 Lund Explorer 1700 with a 90hp 4 stroke motor. Duel consoles or a full windshield would be nice at times but other then that, no regrets after 10 years. I can get it in really shallow water and it handles rough water better then I do.

I have a 2006 Lund 18' Explorer 'Crappie Edition' with a 115hp Merc 4 stroke. I don't believe they make a crappie edition anymore but, you can get basically the same boat, just called something different.
I have a single, driver side windshield and two live wells. I also have 2 side by side seat postions in the bow.
For crappie fishing it is a dream and if I'd change anything it might be a 150hp 4 stroke Yamaha. I get 34 mph with the Merc but, there are times I'd like a little more.
I pull the plug everytime I put the boat on the trailer. I NEVER get even a single drop of water. It stays that dry.
I'm older, 72yo and love the deep gunnels on the Lund, I never feel like I'm going to fall out of the boat and if I had small kids, that is definately what I'd want.
I also use an 80# MK Fortrex and have no problem holding over a waypoint in wind. If it gets so rough I can't hold it, I probably shouldn't be out anyway!
As to the dual windshield, that is just personal preference. I'm thinking if you do a lot of winter fishing with a partner or your kids, the daul makes sense. My partners might say it's a necessity, you'd have to ask them, I stay high and dry and prefer the openness of a single windshield.

I have a Lund Pro V 1800 with a Yamaha 150 4 stroke. It's rated for a 175 but I think I would be fine with a 115. I prefer to run 25 to 30 mph and it does this at 3000 rpm. It's the best all around fishing boat I've ever had...I love the higher sides. When the wind blows I have no problem staying on the pile (15 mph) but the waves are big enough where it's hard to hold the jig still, so I either go home or find calm water.

Hope this helps.

I too have a 18' Lund 2008 model. Bought it new with a 150 Merc Verado 4 stroke and an 80# Minn Kota TM. The boat rides very good (better than some mentioned on this thread) and the 150 Verado will push it to 50 mph with two people and tank of gas (37 gals). I'm now on my second Minn Kota 80# and have never had a problem holding in any fishable wind. If you go with a Lund, you will find that finding one for sale in Texas is a rare occurrence. Most guys that have them tend to hang on to them. I use to guide for crappie using this boat and it'll handle up to four adults with still enough room for fishing and seating. You'll pay more for a Lund than you will a G3, Crestliner, Alumacraft, etc....but you'll get what you pay for.

Thanks for all the input. I think the ride quality is one of the major traits pushing me towards Lund. I've had major back surgery and the bass boats wear me out pretty good in rough water. I have also noticed there are not many used Lund boats for sale around here and the ones that do pop up are gone very quickly. How do the high sides effect dock shooting? I know most of the east Texas lakes I fish are usually low anyways so it may not be a huge deal. I've never tried it but sounds like a lot of fun from what I see on here.

You will have to drive to pick it up, but this is a good board to find them on.

Dont overlook a fiberglass center console boat. I have a 22' Pathfinder cc with Honda 225 4stroke and would not trade it for a lund. There is a reason why Bigcrappie is running more fiberglass cc than lunds. Just saying.

I love my Lund Fury 1625XL SS, I fish alone most of the time.
my last boat was a CC NauticStar thought it was the best till I bought a Lund.
had a Hydra Sport before the NauticStar. I will buy a larger Lund in a coulpe of years when true retirement hits for me and the wife.
Bought my Lund from Fish and Ski on the north end of Ray Roberts. I feel they treated me right, but I paid cash and no trade in.
the ride in this small Lund is very good in the chop. pretty dry ride. I had aguide in the Lund when i bought and he says he was very impressed.

I don't understand really the concept that Lunds get blown around in the wind. Having come from a 20' Cobra Bass boat to the 19' ProV, I can honestly say that the Lund tracks truer in any wind extremely better than the bass boat.

PS. I'd sell mine and I live in Texas. grin PM for details if you're interested.
2006 19' ProVSE 225HP Optimax 2 stroke.
