If it floats you can catch crappie out of it. I have an 87 16 foot glastron with an 1986 90 hp evinrude. Put a trolling motor on it and a way to find the fish and you are ready to go. I have more invested in the TM and fish finder than I paid for the boat. So I am saying you can catch crappie out of any boat. If you are looking to get a boat find one you like and would be most comfortable spending a few hours fishing out of.

do you like aluminum over fiberglass? what are the advantages vs disadvantages when fishing in timber with wind and using trolling motor. I have a fiberglass bass boat and it sure is getting scratched up. also at my age I have ended up in the water when I was standing up and accidently stepped on the trolling motor switch and hit a stump. might help to have higher sides.

I like mine http://wareagleboats.com/boats/9/754ldsv but it needs a bigger trolling motor and new electronics (which, I am currently saving for).

Probing brush for crappie is my game!

Many factors go into answering your question. How often do you plan on fishing. What type of structure will you be fishing ect. I fish out of a 22' center console and love it. Best answer I can give is stay within your budget and get all the boat you can. AlliUminum is better in timber fiberglass better in open water. Longer is better than shorter. All boats will float. The skill of the angler is what catches fish. Not the boat.

You want a boat with a Motorguide Xi5 so you can stay on top of brush piles with out having to think about it. You also want some type of side imaging sonar so you can find structure and see if it has fish on it. Boat really doesn't matter unless safety is an issue.

Like said above decide on what type of fishing you will be doing mainly. How many going to be fishing with you and things like that. Do your homework and chose the one that best matches your style.

I bought my Lund Explorer with safety in mind. My son was young at the time and I didn't want him falling in. I feel a lot safer having a boat with tall sides as well. Tracker makes a Tundra (I believe) that has tall sides as well. It handles rough water well and keeps me dry. Also get a nice walk thru canopy.

Hard to beat a small pontoon with a fifty hp motor. it will do 18 mph and almost make gas.
and four people can fish out of it as good as one or two. Food for thought! wink

I'm in good shape for the shape I'm in!
