Have a 2008 21' Nautic Star center console and recently updated the electronics/trolling motor. Put a Lowrance Gen 3 Insight HDS 12 with LSS-2 bundle on the console and left the old Lowrance 520C on the bow for the time being. Also had the 24 volt Motorguide Xi5 with sonar and gps installed. The Xi5 has the gateway and NMEA to the new HDS 12 on the console and the 520C is free standing and connected to the Xi5's transducer that is built in to the foot, so it is sonar only. Also added the point 1 Lowrance puck to the stern.

With the background set, I am not a tech savvy person, so my head was spinning as Slade pulled up to our meeting place one afternoon this week. In no time we were on the water and he quickly updated the software, then he was like Bruce Lee on the poor HDS 12, moving at warp speed, dialing that puppy in to amazing clarity!! In a few minutes we were paralleling the 154 bridge in side imaging mode and he was picking out individual big largemouth bass ("see that dark shadow behind that big bass"), schools of white bass and balls of shad. The graph is not only large on the console, but had stunningly clear images, very impressive. Then we were off to find some brush piles, which were full of crappie and amazingly you could actually count the individual fish , putting waypoints on several of them. Then we backed away and deployed the Xi5 and used the HDS 12 to have the Xi5 return to waypoint. The trolling motor is amazing, very quiet and when it reached the waypoint, went into anchor mode and holding a tight pattern on the waypoint with almost no drift. At about this point he dialed in the 520C on the bow and it had never looked close to this good. With all this in mind, the HDS 12's 83/200 transducer is mounted in my rear hull, so my waypoints are in the back of the boat. As a test, using the remote FOB around my neck, I touched the back button (one touch moves you backwards 5 feet) 4 times and low and behold, the structure that was on the HDS 12 was now on the transducer on the bow!!!!! How cool!!!! The down imaging is remarkable as well as the sonar. Slade just kept teaching me function after function and having me perform the task. He is good people and was very patient with me as it took me a while to get the hang of some of the functions. We traveled a good bit over the lake and running in chart mode at 40 miles an hour, you could see (using Navionics Platinum card) contour lines and when there was a quick contour change could easily create a waypoint then name it using the touch or any point of interest for checking out in the future. There was so much more that Slade tought me.....my head was spinning with uncertainty and questions when we met 3 hours earlier, but when we were done that evening my head was still spinning, but this time from the knowledge learned and the performance of the now dialed in cutting edge electronics. Slade is a stand up guy, patient and pleasant, but most importantly can dial in your new electronics to breathtaking clarity. It is money well spent and I highly recommend him.

I would be remiss if I did not thank David at Shut Up and Fish. He took several phone calls from me with multiple questions and listened to what I wanted, then recommended the proper gear to make it perform flawlessly. He sold me the Xi5 and all the accessories to get the boat set up right. He too is a class act. great man to deal with and highly recommended as well. David also recommended Brian at Sartin Marine, just out of Yantis who did an extremely professional installation job of all the new equipment. Slade verified this almost instantly as we got on the water.

I only took one picture with my cell of the HDS and will try to attach. Have a number of screen shots on the HDS but will have to figure out how to get posted later.
