I have a forest of Bamboo on my property and have always used it to make condos. But now it has turned in to a lot of work as I have harvested all the usable stalks from the forest edge. Now I have to hack my way in get at it which is the easy part.( Not that it is all that easy ) The hard part is dragging the stalks out thru a tangle of very heavy growth jungle and try to avoid stepping on cut stalks or getting an eye punched out. It's no fun anymore so I'm thinking of using PVC since I have seen many post of it. I was wondering how long it takes to start working? And how do you "rough it up" to make the algae attach? Is 5 foor lengths sufficient? Any reason I shouldn't use it? Will appreciate advice, tips, opinions. Thanks

I've found that natural vegetation always seems to hold fish better than artificial. The artificial is easier and cleaner to build and sink. PVC can be sanded to make the algae start sooner. You can always add couplings to make PVC longer. If you buy the couplings in quantity, you can save quite a bit. 5' lengths would be great for horizontal pieces.

PVC for me. Rough up the pipe with rough sand paper and algae grows on it quick. I have had fish on PVC condos in a day. Now if natural stuff is faster than 1 day then I will just wait the day. The ease and longevity of PVC is the clear winner in my book. The placement/location of the condo is way more important than the materials used IMHO.

Any length works. Depends on how big you want it. Roughing it with sandpaper does accelerate the algae growing but you don't have to. It will eventually get algae. You can tie a feed bag to it as well to help draw in some fish. It helps on mine. Also you may want to put something on the pvc to be able to see it on sonar as it will not show in the water very well until the algae starts to grow on it.

PVC for me!!! It takes less concrete to sink and I've caught fish off them 2wks later. The last 2 I put out on 7-3 produced some small crappie and a 3 1/2# bass last Tuesday, then Belinda pulled a 2# Slab off them yesterday. I have some cedar that I'm going to use on the next ones, but I'll use PVC when I can for the lifespan of it
