I spent 3 1/2 hours on the water Friday afternoon and another 3 hours this afternoon. Both trips were right after storms. Water temp was 74 degrees both days. Winds were light on Friday, but got up a bit this afternoon.

I caught 12 keepers each trip. On both days, it was a slow start, but I eventually got the fish to bite better, then had to leave just when I had them hitting better. On Friday, I got such a late start after waiting out the storm that I was holding up dinner plans by staying any later. And today, I left when my trolling motor cable broke.

I caught the fish on brush and concrete, 9 to 10 feet deep, in 9 to 20 feet of water. Fewer of my spots seem to be working now, and the fish seem to be more finicky. Maybe it's because of the weather. The fish were caught on 1/16 oz and 3/32 oz jigs with my homemade plastic shad. Dark gray shad was the best color. There was no clear pattern on either day. The shallower spots worked better. Some fish wanted the bait crawled along the bottom, others wanted it dropped straight down, then left sitting still. Some bit hard, some just became weight on the jig. All of Friday's fish were released. I cleaned 3 today. One had eggs.

I don't really have any spots working right now that are close enough to a ramp to fish with my kayak, but I guess that's my only boat until that trolling motor cable comes in. I hadn't broken a cable in many years.

Nice report Bud!
Someone warned me about the tm cable breaking so I ordered one that I carry in the boat as a spare when mine does break, they all will eventually.
Another thing I carry that some might find strange is a 3' piece of weedeater string. If your motor stops peeing, run the string up the [censored] hole and if that doesn't solve the problem you know you probably have a problem with your water pump.

Like many older anglers here probably can, I remember when trolling motor cables used to break fairly often. I carried a spare then. But, I had not had a cable break on the last 4 trolling motors I've owned until this one just did. That dates back to one I bought in 1993. That means it's been something more than 22 years since I broke a trolling motor cable, and I'd long since quit carrying a spare.
