I tried Willis creek last Saturday night. After the cold spell and then two warmer days i figured the warmest water would be in the creeks, and the creeks would be alive with shad and crappie.
Wrong.
First, I have NEVER seen Willis creek so clear. I could see 5 feet into the water. But there was nothing there. Shad did not even come to the lights.
Needless to say, we did not net any crappie.

That's how it goes. Should have went to San Gabriel primitive boat launch area, bet they tore them up. LOL had you gone there, you'd wonder how Willis was doing.

heres what ive been noticing abt winter creek fishing, if you check the inflow tables and see really slow inflow, then that means COLD, clear water is slowly flowing into the lake. usually from the creeks and rivers. Not enough to muddy the water up much. The shad dont like to come up the rivers and creeks when this clear cold water is flowing in. Many factors to consider. If its been mostly overcast while that rainwater is trickling in, it will be colder. real cold nightime temps, colder.Try to look a the lake on a large scale, big picture. waco creeks havent been very good latley either, because there has been a steady , gentle flow of cold water coming in for a while. The fish are real deep in the main lake for the most part,.so is the baitfish . http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/cgi-bin/rcshtml.pl?page=Reports&report=fish
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !
