How do you store your catch on your yak? Looking into a live well or cooler. I used to use a basket, which is ok. Came across a crate live well but I think it might be a little small. I fish crappie and whites. I like to keep them alive in case I don't have enough to take home.

i use a stringer. if i make a decision to keep fish then no matter if its 1 or a limit ill take them home unless for some reason they are just super lively and i know they will survive. i carry far to much on the yak for a live well, its just a choice and what works for you.

depends on what style of fishing i'm doing - i either go with a basket or a stringer.

Usually i use the stringer - but the basket works well when i'm targeting know spots for crappie and so not moving around a lot or moving fast.

The problem with a live well/cooler - depending on your kayak it can add a lot of weight and take a lot of room. That said if you have a nicer/larger kayak that isn't such a big deal.

If I'm going for crappie I use a basket. Catfish I use a stringer.

Oh and if I take live bluegill as bait for cats, I take my basket for them.

I have an Engel 35 cooler with ice on the boat for keeping all things cold including my catch.

Stringer for blue cats in the winter. Small igloo with ice other times. I practice if I dont release it after catching it I keep it regardless if I only catch one. The exception might be a catfish caught in cold water, it might survive. I just dont think any fish other than catfish will have a good chance of survival. Hot water = no chance.

Common carp 26
Goldfish 9.78lb

I use a Sam's Club insulated soft-side bag($6), lined with bubble-wrap(like window shield stuff), and use four frozen gel-packs, and my water bottle. I like not having ice-melt fill my bag up. A local lady works for a vet and gives away gel-packs and foam coolers. When I catch a fish I know I'm going to invite home for dinner, it goes in the bag. If it's a maybe, it goes on a stringer, till go-home time. IslandJim

Small cooler for me. I keep a spare stringer for any extras.
