Still trying to get some of my old pictures out of photobucket and came across a few that brought back good memories. The whistle buoy 2 miles out of Port Everglades Inlet in Ft.Lauderdale. The third reef starts here and drops straight down from 40 to around 150 feet depths. The current was really moving this day. Sunny day with clouds can really make things interesting. Chokoloskee, Everglades National Park, the oyster bars at start of outgoing tide. A great place to fish from a kayak.

I’ve always liked pictures of old buoys. Thanks for sharing.

That last picture above was my favorite starting point on most days when I fished Choko. It might be the largest accumulation of oyster bars in all the Everglades, over 300 acres in the one spot with very short paddle from ramp. It was a maze of bars with very few ways out and no forgiveness to fiberglass boats. Great top water fishing for snook, trout, and redfish. Would fish all the way to the furthest shore in last picture (looking south) then catch the main channel out 2 miles through the mangroves to the outside islands on the Gulf of Mexico where the tarpon would usually hang out. Later on you would ride the incoming tide back to the oyster bars and fish it again. What a place! Accidental catch Took this picture looking back over Chokolosske Bay after losing a monster snook in that mangrove root.

Cool pics. Makes me wish I was out one the water.

I think these were taken at least 12 years ago. The southern entrance into the Everglades, at Flamingo. My favorite place to ever fish. Always enjoyed being there with approaching rains as it seemed I always had the place to myself, especially in the summer when the mosquitoes were so bad that hardly anyone every went and the few that did were all off the water well before dark. The channel marker into Snake Bight, one of the most famous fishing areas in the Everglades. You never knew until you got there if the grass would be stacked up from the wind and tides. Never knew what you would catch.. snook, trout, tarpon, triple tail, bonefish, mangrove snapper, sawfish, grouper, permit. Before I ever fished there had always read and heard from guides about how hard the fish fought there, as if the fish were meaner. It's absolutely true. Even the manatees were meaner there. Everything is on edge.. with sharks, crocodiles, and burmese python all sharing the same waters, it gives the place an surreal feeling. If I had a wish it would be that anyone taking a trip so south Florida would check Flamingo out. I love the Keys but for getting away from civilization and getting your adrenaline pumping, there is no place like it. The video below references the fight of the Everglades tarpon. For someone with some time and a kayak, I can't think of a more exciting place to fish. https://goo.gl/maps/w4yFrD2L8jq

I'm thinking about a long trip back there next year. I can't remember the year but it was my last cast of day on the 4th of July.

More from Flamingo Negative tide day. The place looked like a desert with more land exposed than I'd ever seen. Was waiting for the water to come back in to continue paddling when I saw this shark approaching from two hundred yards. It cut two quick donuts right in front of me. It was one of my first visits to Flamingo. I grew up catching rattlesnakes as a kid. This was the first snake that I really feared as it blocked the road as I was returning home late one evening. Biggest snake I've ever seen in the wild and the thought of running into one while in kayak was always on my mind afterward. Had one of these run over the bow of my kayak when I accidentally cut off its escape path while it was sunning. It happened so fast I didn't have time to be scared. One of my frequent fishing partners, a dolphin, intentionally splashing me.
