Headed to the Brazos at Hwy. 16 Friday morning. They reports on the Fly Fishing Forum say they were killing the sandbass this past weekend right below the dam. The flow today was only about 130 cfs which will make an easy paddle to the dam. let me know if interested in meeting up at the bridge.

In my past trips 260 cfs is still very doable to paddle upstream to the DAM. Rick, Daniel and myself went up in Dec when it was 300 cfs.

I am far from an expert or in shape paddler smile and would not have a problem recommending anyone but young kids attempt GOING upstream at 260cfs.

NOW I have not gone downstream from the Hwy 16 bridge, so I can not speak to the ability to paddle back to the Hwy 16 bridge at 260 cfs.

Not sure what gauge you guys were checking but the one I have used before shows right now 124cfs.

Here is the gauge name USGS 08088610 Brazos Rv nr Graford, TX

BRA just replied to my question. Here is their answer :

"Our hydrologists may bump up the release from the current 100 cfs to 300 cfs sometime over the weekend. But we don't expect to go over 300 cfs unless we receive rainfall."

Rob,
Thanks for the update. I am planning on a Friday trip so hopefully the release will still be at 200 or lower. The 260-300 cfs is sporty but doable. Once the flow was at that level and we had a very stout north wind coming right down the river. It was a tough paddle from Hwy. 16 to the dam but a very quick trip back to the truck.

I will be taking my girls on their first canoe overnight Saturday. They confirmed the 100 to 300 range for this weekend as mentioned above. The only thing that might change is if rain comes earlier on Sunday.

Unfortunately, I'm out for this trip. It looks to be a late night tonight.

Good luck and paddle safe. Be sure to post up your results/efforts.
