Hey there. been wanting to try out fishing from a yak and now have a chance. I've been in a yak just a handful of times. I can get an Ocean Kayak Scrambler 11 or Ocean Kayak Malibu 2 Xl. It's on a rewards deal at work so I'm stuck with those options. I'm 6'1" and 235 pounds. Figured the 2 XL would be stable but is it a massive PITA to paddle solo? I do have kids so I was thinking it would be best since I could take them for a ride on occasion. Would just be on lakes and ponds. thanks for the help!

I paddled a Malibu 2 out of Florida. Had granddaughters too small to paddle in the front and so I was essentially solo with an extra load. The 2 XL is only slightly larger than the 2 and only weighs 11 pounds more. There are bigger solo kayaks than the 2 XL. The Scrambler would hold a kid but it would be cramped and as big as you are I would definitely recommend the 2 XL. As long as the kids aren't too big you could probably haul 2. And you won't have any trouble taking a 68 lb kayak to water.

You could always get one of them and then sell yet and put that money towards the kayak you want.
