I am starting to see a pattern here. I have been skunked twice now on lake Fork in tournaments.
But I do know for sure where there are some flatties sunning themselves in the shallows. I'll head back in a week or so and put the redhead onto some excitement in the shallows. The water was really muddy everywhere I went. My chosen area did not have much deeper than about 18' and that turned out to be a problem for me finding crappie that day. I located about 6 nice brush-piles with nothing marking on them at all.
I couldn't believe it when my GPS said I had logged 13.5 miles at the end of the tourney. Beautiful weather , great padding and at least I bent my rod a few times and heard the drag moan a bit. Fishing 4-6 lb line I had the drags set light. The water temps were from 62 to 67 and normally anywhere in N. Texas I would have said to look under 4' deep, but the big fish ( most all fish ) came from very deep.
With 193 entrants, only 106 had anything at all to weigh. There were a lot of guys wearing fancy sponsored jersies that got totally skunked too. I would do it again in a heartbeat. It was a hoot ! I saw several kayakers, but none of them were even aware of the Crappiefest tourney,, but them again none of them had anything but bass that day. they were up shallow with me and a few dozen other fools.
