What is the power draw of your FF (mAh) and how many hours do you want it to run between charges?

Cabelas 12v 8ah in a Pelican box for FF and lights. I've also got a bigger Battery Tender Lithium Ion battery I can put inside the hull of my kayak if I want/need more power.

That until consumes up to .7 amp (700 mA)
If you are planning on running that unit 10-12 hrs I'd get a 14 AH, AGM or GEL battery.
Match the charger to the type and size battery you get. To get overall longer life (more cycles) try to never discharge
more than 40-50% (11.9-11.6 volts)

Neither IMO, I'd recommend a Deep Cycle AGM or Gel.

How long do you want it to run without having to recharge?
I think if you are starting out with a new battery and not fishing in really cold or hot conditions you should be able to get 8-12 hrs run time maybe even a little more at first. As you start putting cycles on the battery the performance will eventually start dropping off. A lot of variables will come into play as to how soon this happens.
1) The quality of the battery is important for long life, not all batteries are created equal.
2) How far you discharge each time out is very important, the deeper you discharge the more it affect how many cycles you'll get. Best not to discharge more than 40-50 % ( a 12 volt battery is considered dead at 10 volts)
3) For a lead acid battery it's important not to use it then let it sit in a discharged condition, always top it off asap and use a smart charger for your type of battery so you can leave it connected to keep your battery fully charged.

I've been unable to get a lead acid battery to last more than 10-14 months but I use my battery more than most. I'm currently using a Lithium ion battery and have no plans to ever go back to lead acid. With that said Lithium ion batteries are very expensive.

So, Pelican, what battery would you recommend for the Helix 7 SI GPS?
