A little late in getting this posted...
So I met up with Xotlotl (Daniel from TKF) on Wednesday hoping for a little McFaddin BTB action. After we get his new rod/reel combo all spooled up we hit the water and paddle out to around 8-9 FOW and anchor up. It wasn't long we had some action. Gafftop action!! After several slimmers I got a heavy hit with a long fast run!!! Fish on!! My first red in a very long time!
The next customer I thought was a gafftop turned out to be shark number 1
Customer number 3
After those, the bite died off where I was sitting so Daniel suggested I come fish over to his right cause there's just to many fish for him to handle alone....
New spot. Anchored up, put on a nice fat chunk of mullet and let it sail right into what had to be, the mouth of a yawning shark. The cast that never ended I called it. The bait no more made a splash and FISH ON!! Though I haven't caught but a handful of sharks this one was the first that offered to take my fingers from me when I reached to cut it loose.
It give me a pretty good soakin when it got next to the yak!
After a break on the sand, we paddled back out in ice cream conditions to finish off the bait we had. Waited, waited and waited. The bite was dead. Soon after, the wind picked back up and the water chopped up... FISH ON!!
Shark 3 on the line. By all means I don't know how I landed this fish. It made straight for my anchor rope, promptly tied some what looked like very nice half hitches with the mono around the rope. The rope comes over the stern of my yak... this ain't good. Keep the rod at 10 and 2 they say. It ain't happen'! Oh well maybe one handed at 5:30 will work! Finally get to my knife, cut the anchor rope and luckily slides out of the wraps made by sharky. Ain't out of the woods yet though as now the main line is caught on something behind my crate and he's pulling some drag and I just knew it was gonna break off. Finally it came unhooked from whatever and it's game on!
All in all I land three sharks, had two break offs due to short leaders and boated two reds. I forget the exact number of reds Daniel caught but I'm thinking he was nearing double digits.
By far the best day on the water for me since Feb 14th.
A couple of shot of Daniel on a hook up
Here's a little clip from High Island on 9-5-15. For a minute I thought the little bugger was gonna get in my boat!
