Been considering the Ocean Kayak Trident 13. Heard positive reviews, good tracking, storage options, ability to handle chop and rough water and good speed. I have been reading some post about issues with the hull deforming/oil canning with the Trident 13, even with proper storage and transport, possibly due to thinness of the plastic on these kayaks. Also, with the design of the mod pod concerns of risk of water entering directly entering the hull if kayak ever turtles and lid pops off, resulting in kayak sinking. I have never heard this happening but has anyone heard of this.
Don't know if hull issues are more due to owners neglecting their boats are a quality control issue with the Tridents.

You may get SOME water in the mod pod if turtled but not enough to sink it.
It would b about the same as any other yak with mod pod. The water isn't gonna rush in by any means.
Haven't heard of the deformation issues with OKs. Ocean has always made nice yaks for the $.
I have seen & heard of folks using ratchet straps n over ratcheting. This puts too much pressure on their hulls n causes hull deformation.
OKs Trident 13 is a nice yak IMO for not a lot of $.

I've owned a couple of OK's and their hulls aren't the thickest but they aren't the thinnest either and one reason they don't weigh as much as a lot of kayaks that are similar. That said, they are tough durable kayaks and have stood up to the test of time and have a very good reputation!
Ocean kayaks where pretty much one of the first and everyone else came along after.
I hate the ratchet straps, and you are asking for trouble using them on a kayak. Those straps are designed to ratchet down tight or they tend to slip, especially on a plastic hull, and that is why I wouldn't use them on any kayak.

These are the type that should be used. Just snug them down and you won't have a problem.

I have a 2010 Trident 13 and a 2012 Torque. Both have given me excellent service, and they have been subjected to a lot of hard use. I've had no issues with either, other than a potentiometer in the wiring harness on the Torque. About the only maintenance I've had to do is rebonding a hatch gasket on the Torque and rebonding part of the trim around the pod on the Trident (a pre - Mod Pod boat. I spend a lot of time in shallow water, sitting sidesaddle and crabwalking the boat, looking for reds with the yaks heeled WAY over and with the hatches often in the water. The most water I ever drained out at the end of the day was less than a gallon. No one can guarantee you won't have issues, but the Trident 13, and the Ocean Kayaks in general, have a stellar reputation. Don't be worried about poor quality with an OK.

Anyone have input how the Viking Profish 400 compares to the Ocean Kayak Trident 13? Differences in hull design and performance?
