Been thinking about going to a inflatable style one. You know with the C02s that inflate the set up on contact with water.

My concern is, if you should turtle or otherwise fall in. Can you swim and maneuver well enough to get right again and back in the yak?

In my minds eye, those inflate around the upper shoulder and neck, and would for sure keep you from drowning but might not allow the range of motion to right the ship if you would.

Thoughts?

You can swim in one, but it's kind of bulky up front when it's inflated. It might be a little cumbersome on a re-entry. Plus it'll cost ya' like 30 bucks for a recharge kit after taking a dunk.

I have one and used to wear it all the time. Still do in a bass boat. In my yak, though, I just got used to wearing my regular PFD. I like the option of being able to get it wet, especially in the summer. I've been known to beach the boat and take an impromptu swim when it's hot, and I leave my vest on when I do it.

Just get A manual inflating one then not auto? Ripcors if you need to float, all day comfort you can't even notice if you don't. Bought all of mine at academy for like $49.99 on sale I think in camo? Love them. Worth the cost of convenience to me because otherwise I wouldn't dear it all day every day on the water so a regular off would never keep me as safe because it wouldn't be on.

I would never use inflatables. Thats just me, either they can auto inflate when you dont want them to or they dont inflate at all cause your unconscious. Pfd options these days are great. I currently use the nrs chinook but also saw a brand kolkat...may be misspelled. Lots of companies out there make paddling vests.

Good feedback!

Think I'll stick with my current vest!
