Looking to get my first fishing kayak. I have around $600 to spend. I am looking at the ascend fs12t and field and stream Eagle talon. Are there others I should consider and what do you recommend? I will mostly being fishing lakes/reservoirs and maybe a river every once and a while.

My FS12T treated me right for quite a while. I upgraded to a H12 though.

H12 is the hybrid right? Why did you switch to it?

H12 is the hybrid right? Why did you switch to it? Because i'm fat. True Story. Wanted something with more stability and weight capacity. I'm 6'2" 300lbs so it was a good switch for me. The FS12T is a great platform for the price point. If you could save up a bit more I would get the new Vibe Sea Ghost 130 though.

Thanks for the info. I will look into the sea ghost. Since I started looking I had my eye on the Viking profish lite. Not sure it would be worth the money though.

The Viking is a bit over $1,000. Don't forget to budget for a good paddle and a comfortable PFD. That's easily another $150-$250+.

I also just switched from the FS12T to the Ascend H12. Really digging the H12 for storage, stability and seems to track much better. Think I will have this boat for a while. Really been enjoying it....

Can't beat the Ascend line from BPS in your price range. You can also buy a decent fishing kayak if you have patience and check out the classifieds. Saving up another $600 on top of what you have would make shopping for a kayak a lot of fun because your choices are pretty limitless when you take the financial part out of it.
Just one more cast!

The Eagle Talon is on sale at Dick's Sporting Goods. It's a pretty good beginner kayak.

I'll be going by Dicks today after work and ordering one because they don't have the Blue Camo in stock.
