Looks like Pelican entered the fishing kayak high/low seat market!

That writer is and idiot. 70 lbs is not lightweight even for a fishing kayak. There are kayaks a whole lot better that weigh less.
I still wouldn't have anything Pelican makes.

Good for them, I am sure they will sell plenty of those at Academy. Looks kinda bulky and it's still a pelican so it will be a low tier yak but this might not be a bad option for someone looking to start on a limited budget.

Nothing wrong with that at all. If it floats and you enjoy yourself don't worry about what name is on the side of it.

Yep, there will always be kayaker snobbery! LoL!
I have to agree though that 70# isn't what I consider light weight either!
I have a Wilderness Systems Commander 120 that pushes 64# and I can get that weight down below 60# if I take out the seat, so no way 70# is light weight anything.
If they keep the price down so it doesn't break the bank, and it proves to be reliable I see nothing wrong with it, if it gets someone out on the water.

I have Perception Pescador I like it ok. I actully like that striker too. I'm one of those people that can't afford an expensive kayak. Raising kids, paying bills, and still trying to find enough money to do something you love. Its not always easy. Kayaks like this are a good way to get out there on a budget.

I know some VERY good fishermen that cut their teeth in Pelicans and not only survived, they embarrassed some of the competition.

Pelican had a rep for being "tippy" with the early round bottom models and they were. They dumped a lot of marginal paddlers. I paddled one for a while, but having been raised paddling, it simply did not bother me. If a person understands primary and secondary stability, then they will recognize the newer hull designs addressed the stability problem a long time ago. The manufacturing method, not the material, is what helps keep their costs low. Ramx is a far tougher material than anything that can be rotomolded. Simple fact.
I think these new boats will hit their target market just how they intended.

I applaud anyone, paddling anything, that is out there fishing instead of on the internet talking about it. (OOPS< I think I just dinged myself didn't I )

Tight lines yall ! wahtever you paddle.
