I'm looking at getting into kayak fishing and I live in the Denton/Lewisville area.

Is Lake Lewisville a viable lake to kayak fish on? I know it can get windy out there some times, and is generally pretty busy. Would it be too much for a new kayaker to manage?

Are there other places in the area that might be better suited for a newbie?

Still haven't even picked a kayak yet, but I am eager to get out there!

there are some protected coves and creeks that are just fine for kayaks. I would def stay away from the main lake on a yak, especially as it gets warmer

Thank you for the quick response.
I had a feeling the main portion of the lake would be off limits to me.

Would it be viable to go for whites/crappie/bluegill in said coves?

Yes.

There are some nice little fishing holes that are off the main lake.

I've kayaked and used my Jon boat on LL.

My advice:

-wear your PFD
-have a bright kayak
-have a bright paddle
-keep your head on a swivel

Launching from Lake Park can be good for hybrids and sand bass
Up around the new bridge can be decent too.
Like said above, there are plenty of coves. But I also have some spots that are out on the main lake.
If you get up early you can paddle to the cut in the old dam. But I wouldn't do that on a busy day.

That is my home lake. North of the toll bridge is usually pretty good, less motor boats up there. I do often take chances and fish the main lake too but can be risky at times. If you wanna go chase some cats let me know.
